Pevsner stated that the mile-long beech avenue to Stansted House is one of the finest in the country. Stephen would have it that it is without doubt the finest. Lunch is at the Victoria Inn, West Marden, nice food and good beer and then tea in a tea shop at Compton. If we mistime the one train an hour back then we may indulge in tea and desserts in the pub at Rowlands Castle. Book your ticket early or get together with 3 others to get a group ticket for half price each as the train is somewhat expensive |
